How does the content get into FUNDus!?

The expansion of the content is carried out in cooperation with the respective curators and collection directors as well as the Central Office for Scientific Collections. The Central Office for Scientific Collections is responsible for coordinating the presentation of the respective collection and the data it contains.

The Center for Sustainable Research Data Management integrates the information and data compiled by the Central Office for Scientific Collections into the collection portal FUNDus! and further develops the functionality according to requirements.

How is the display of the collections created?

For each collection there is an introductory description, contact addresses and, if applicable, objects. On the level of the collection it is also possible to display sub-collections instead of objects, which in turn can contain their own objects (but no other sub-collections). For each collection, keywords can be assigned, which increase the findability of the collection.

How the collection items are displayed is determined individually for each collection:

Title fields (max. 3)
Sort by (max. 3 Felder)
Field selection Basic view (overview page) also corresponds to the display of the search fields
Formatting of the fields (italics for latin terms)
Selection fields for the search
Display of a feedback form
Help text for the FAQ page

Do the images have to have a certain format?

Accepted formats for images include jpg, png, tif and PDF. The images for the objects are delivered by an image server, which converts sizes and formats. It is important that the images can be uniquely assigned to the data. When naming the images, it is advantageous to avoid umlauts, special characters, spaces, etc.

How should I deal with synonyms, old or changed descriptions?

The content is expanded in cooperation with the respective curators and collection managers as well as the Central Office for Scientific Collections. The Central Office for Scientific Collections is responsible for coordinating the presentation of the respective collection and the data it contains.

Can I assign keywords to my collection?

For collections and areas there is a field in which general keywords can be assigned to improve the findability of the texts.

For single objects there is the possibility to define keywords as a hidden field (i.e. a field without label). These fields are included in the search index, but are not displayed on the interface.

Use of feedback / crowdsourcing

If desired, a feedback form can be displayed under each collection item, allowing experts or committed laymen to send errors or additions for the object directly to the address provided. The address entered here does not have to be the same as the contact address.

Practice piece collection

Collection items that are of interest for a specific purpose can be marked accordingly by the heads of the collection and linked as a selection, for example for teaching purposes.

For each collection there is the possibility to display a link list in the right column, which for example contains references to publications or data publications.

Tips for searching

What search options are available?

The general search functionality (on the start page) searches all objects, but initially only the collection objects are included in the search. If no hits are found within the collection objects, the metadata of the collections are searched additionally.

All text fields are analysed and searched as a full text search. This has the great advantage that partial terms are found more easily.

When searching across all collections, a faceting of results by collection is performed in addition to the search result. Grouping the hits by collection allows direct access to these subsets.

For each collection there is a dedicated search. Here you can search directly in all the fields of the quick view. Since each collection is structured differently, the search is adapted to the respective contents.

The collection directors decide what this search actually looks like. For example, they determine which fields should be displayed as a selection list.

Placeholder / Wildcard in the search

Partial terms can be searched for specifically by using the percentage sign (%) as a placeholder. This placeholder replaces any number of characters in the search term.
