Collection: Large-scale equipment

The collection comprises instruments from 1867 to 1975. This period saw the replacement of the large lens telescopes by reflecting telescopes, of which typical representatives are on display here. At the same time, this development marks the transition from classical astronomy, in which the determination of star positions was the most important task of observatories, to modern astrophysics. With the original Schmidt mirror, the collection also includes a world sensation from 1930 marking the beginning of the era of photographic sky surveys
